Rewriting of Cha piece: Class Act by Peter Phillips (excerpt)
When Ms. Ellie Gould
heard that the local theatre society was going to perform Macbeth, she was
beyond excited. She’d spent years dreaming of playing the Lady Macbeth, and
here was her chance. Being an English teacher, she had the perfect excuse to
use her class as preparation for the audition. Her students, however, did not
share her excitement, and were thoroughly confused by their teacher’s wild
ramblings about the milk of human kindness, and screwing courage to a sticky
place? Her enthusiasm (and the fear it instilled in her students) came to a
head when she decapitated a baby doll by hurling it against the far wall.
Being well-versed on the
play’s curse, Ms. Gould refused to utter its name, and demanded her students
only refer to it as ‘the Scottish play’. Some of the students wouldn’t listen,
and as a result would be sent outside the classroom, where they were forced to
spin three times and spit on the floor before being allowed back in. This made
for a very disgruntled cleaner.
